Phone Cards
Phone cards can be purchased at convenience stores throughout Taiwan, as well as at some bus and train stations. Prices start as low as NT$300, which allows for a short overseas call.
Some cards are designated to offer discounts on calls to specific countries. It's best to ask the cashier to check which card is on offer before purchasing, so you can get the best rate for calls back home.
Mobile Phone & SIM Cards
GSM SIM Cards
Prepaid GSM SIM cards can be purchased for approximately NT$600 at 7-Eleven convenience stores. These provide a local Taiwanese number and data access during your stay.
Network Compatibility
Taiwan operates on GSM 900MHz and 1800MHz bands. Mobile phones from Singapore and Malaysia are typically already compatible with these frequencies, so travelers from those countries should be able to use their own handsets with a local SIM card.
