Price as low as NT$300 which allow you to make a short oversea call. Some of the cards are designated to offer discount to certain country overseas call. It’s better to ask the cashier for looking on the card on offer before purchase. Singapore/Malaysia mobile phone may already be compatible with Taiwan mobile phone network, which GSM 900MHz/1800MHz. Note: you may have to activate your oversea roaming - depend on which service provider your mobile service was at extra cost. Buy a GSM-standard SIM card from a convenience store or cellular phone shop - a much economical option, which gives you a new number for use within Taiwan. You may get these SIM card as low as NT$600 in convenience store such as 7-Eleven. The number usually activated within 24 hours. For the application of a new number, you have to fill up a form and provide a photocopy of your passport, in some cases you may need to fax your passport to the service provider, usually in 7-Eleven; their staffs will help you to do so. Public phones in Taiwan are divided primarily into two types, coin and card. Coin phones accept coins in denominations of NT$1, NT$5, and NT10. When making local calls it is not necessary to dial the area code; when making long-distance calls, the area code of the party being called must be dialed in first.
